Born in Cosenza, Italy, Canadian landscape painter Rino Friio has called Calgary, Alberta his home from infancy.
Since graduating with a degree in Fine Arts from ACAD (Alberta College of Art + Design) in 1981, Rino’s warm palette and tranquil compositions have found a receptive audience in many private and corporate collections, including The Foothills Hospital, Peter Lougheed Hospital and many Calgary offices.

Along with his gifted impressions of local mountains, rivers and lakes, Mountain Galleries is particularly fond of his charming depictions of the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. “Painting the Banff Springs is two subjects combined: the beautiful mountains and the inspired architecture. The hotel comes from the very stone it is placed on.”
“ Though I love many forms of art, mountains and the open air of the Banff area was always important to me for its impressionistic values and light. I painted Banff for the first time in 1977, and have pursued capturing its distinctive light and open air ever since... ”
