Jim Vest was born in Durham City, England where he attended both the Sunderland College of Art 1960-64 (National Diploma in Design - special subject: painting) and the Manchester College of Art and Design 1964-65 (Art Teacher's Certificate and Diploma). He continued to study and paint in the London are until moving to Canada in 1969 to teach art in the Edmonton school system. Desiring to pursue his craft further, he left teaching in 1980 to paint full time.

Jim has developed a unique and captivating style of painting. Working mostly in oils and acrylics on canvas, his broad-brush techniques produce impressions of nature and the landscape, which have gained wide public acceptance through several one-man shows in British Columbia, the Yukon and Alberta. His work is proving to be some of the most popular pieces in The Gallery at Jasper Park Lodge.

Jim’s work is found in both public and corporate collections around the world.
