JOHN H. BURROW
John H. Burrow is a leading Canadian colourist. He shares his love of nature with others through oil paintings that are always bright, full of colour and imbued with a sense of joy and playfulness.
Born in Oxford Massachusetts in 1955, he was inspired to paint at an early age by parents who embraced the arts. His father had a lifelong career as a master printer and his mother passed on a love of drawing and painting. After high school in Massachusetts, John continued his art education at Utah State University and the Los Angeles Art Centre. He studied in the field of Commercial Art/Illustration and majored in Art Education.
In 1978 John moved to Canada. He worked as a professional illustrator in Edmonton before opening his own illustration and design studio in the late 1990s.
John is established as both an accomplished oil painter and teacher. He has taught illustration and painting courses at Grant McEwan college in Alberta, Okanagan University College and the Kelowna Art Gallery. He offers oil and acrylic painting workshops through his studio in British Columbia.
The subject matter of John's artwork include: childhood memories, impressionistic garden scenes and landscape. John's profound respect for the rhythms of landscape come through a process that involves experiential research of the place, drawings, sketches and plein air painting. No matter what the subject, a reoccuring comment the artist has received over the years is how good his paintings make people feel. This emotive response is well punctuated by a unique and masterful use of vibrant colour. His paintings can be found in collections throughout the world
